Broken Things by Lauren Oliver

I’ve been so excited to read this book ever since I discovered it at Book Con. The cover alone just drew me in and when I read the synopsis, I just knew I needed to get my hands on this book. Thanks to the book community for helping me out with an advanced readers copy. The book comes out on October 2nd 2018. The story is about three best friends Mia, Summer and Brynn who are obsessed with a book called Lovelorn. They are so drawn into the story and of the magic of Lovelorn that reality starts to get blurred. One day, Summer is murdered and Mia and Brynn are the prime suspects. Although they were never convicted due to lack of evidence, that doesn’t stop them from being alienated from school, their community and the rest of the public. Five years later, nearing the anniversary of the death of Summer and in their lowest moments, the friends are reunited and decide to find out the truth once and for all what happened to Summer and solve the mystery of Lovelorn. I give this book four stars. I enjoyed all the characters even with their good and bad traits. The development was well done and had a smooth transition throughout the story. Lauren took me on a interesting journey and sometimes I even had trouble determining what was reality. There were lots of elements of surprise and I felt the ending was far from predictable. I’m really glad I got the chance to read this book and I highly recommend picking up a copy in October.
